Ellendale police arrest 6, recover Habitat for Humanity stolen generator

ELLENDALE, DELAWARE (12/30/2016) Six people were arrested and a stolen Habitat for Humanity generator was recovered, Ellendale police reported Friday.

The generator had been stolen last month from a Habitat construction trailer in the town, and it was recovered on Thursday outside a home it was being used to power at 12127 N. Old State Road.

When officers arrived about 10 a.m. to talk with the homeowner, 72-year-old Wayne A. Lott, four people ran out and fled on foot, Police Chief Bruce E. Von Goerres said.

One of them was captured immediately while the other three went into a wooded area behind the home.

Milton, Milford, state police and probation officers were called in to assist and the others also were apprehended.

Two other people, Rebecca J. Davis and Jason S. Smith, were taken into custody when they drove up to the home and police determined they were wanted, Von Goerres said.

Police said the six arrested were being held at Sussex Correctional Institution on the following charges:

Dontrelle Shields, 23, of 918 S.E. Second Street in Milford: Resisting arrest, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm with drugs, manufactures delivers or possesses ammunition or firearms by person prohibited, a family court warrant in Kent County. Shields was being held in lieu of $24,000 secured bond.

Joshua A. Wright, 26, of 604 Mispillion Drive in Milford: Resisting arrest, two counts of violation of probation, one count of strangulation, one count of offensive touching. He was being held in lieu of $10,000 cash bond.

Jervontae J. Smack, 23, of 12549 N. Old State Road in Ellendale: Resisting arrest, two Sussex County Court of Common Pleas bench warrants, warrant out of Justice of the Peace Court 4 in Seaford and a warrant out of Rehoboth Alderman’s Court for failure to appear. He was being held in lieu of $2,000.00 secured bond.

Tywon J. Williams, 22, of 209 W. Seventh St. in Laurel: Resisting arrest, violation of probation, one warrant out of Kent County Court of Common Pleas and one warrant out of Justice of the Peace Court 2. He was being held in lieu of secured bond.

Davis, 49, of 9164 Cubbage Way in Lincoln: One Sussex County Superior Court warrant for civil contempt and one for theft by false promise under $1,000. She was being held in lieu of $200 secured bond.

Smith, 32,  of 9164 Cubbage Way in Lincoln: Two  Sussex County Common Pleas Court warrants for failure to appear. He was being held in lieu of $200 secured bond.

Von Goerres said the investigation into burglaries and stolen property in the Ellendale area is continuing.

The recovered Troy-Bilt 6250 watt generator had been stolen from the Ingram Village development on Nov. 15.
