4 seriously injured in U.S. 13 crash near Townsend

TOWNSEND, DELAWARE (9/22/2016) Four people were seriously injured in a crash on U.S. 13 near Townsend on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

The collision of a pickup truck and an SUV happened about 3:15 p.m. in the 4200 block of DuPont Parkway (U.S. 13), with three people trapped in the vehicles.

After they were extricated by firefighters, they were treated at the scene by New Castle County and Delaware State Police paramedics, then taken to Christiana Hospital in Stantton, said Sgt. Abigail E. Haas of county paramedics.

Haas provided these details on the injured:

• A 57-year-old man driving the pickup was treated for shoulder, arm, leg and chest injuries and was in serious but stable condition.

• A man driving the SUV, believed to be in his mid-20s, was in serious condition with unspecified injuries.

• A 33-year-old man who was a passenger in the SUV was treated for possible side injury and was in serious but stable condition.

• An 18-year-old woman who was a passenger in the SUV was treated for a head injury, possible internal injuries  and possible back injury, and was in serious condition.

State police are investigating the crash.

Townsend, Volunteer Hose of Middletown and Odessa fire companies responded, as well as a state police helicopter.
