DOVER, DELAWARE (9/13/2016) A 41-year-old Felton man died after he was struck by a car while crossing U.S. 13 north of Dover, the Delaware State Police said this morning.

The pedestrian fatality happened aboute 8:30 p.m. Monday on North DuPont Highway (U.S. 13) just south of Fork Branch Road.

Robert H. Smith was walking from east to west when he was struck by a southbound 2012 Honda Accord in the left lane.

Smith was thrown into the windshield and then the median.

He was taken by ambulance to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said Smith was carrying a small flashlight but it wasn’t known if it was functioning.

The driver of the Honda, Kevin A. King, 22, of Dover, brought the car to a stop in the left lane. He was not injured.

Police said they are still investigating but speed does not appear to be a factor.

Southbound U.S. 13 was closed for about three hours.
