UPDATED STORY: Police identify woman killed, seek tips
DOVER, DELAWARE (8/26/2016) A 59-year-old Dover woman was killed in a collision on Scarborough Road just outside of the city, the Delaware State Police reported this morning.
The crash happened about 6:35 p.m. Thursday east of McKee Road.
The woman killed was eastbound in a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu when another vehicle in front of her, possibly a white Kia passenger car, pulled over to the right shoulder and made a U-turn and continued west.
The driver of the Malibu swerved to the right onto the shoulder and lost control, with her car spinning around and crossing into the westbound lane, police said.
The Malibu was then struck on the driver’s side by the front of a westbound 1999 Buick LaSabre. The Malibu spun around and came to rest in the center of the road, west of the point of impact. The LaSabre came to rest on the westbound shoulder.
The driver of the Malibu was taken to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital in Dover, where she was pronounced dead. Police said she had been wearing a seat belt.
Her name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the LaSabre, Alexander B. Wright, 22, of Virginia, was taken by ambulance to Kent General, where he was treated and released.
Scarborough Road was closed in the area about four hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
Police asked anyone with information on the crash to call Master Cpl. J. Lane at 302-697-4454, ext. 8457.
