DART Paratransit bus in crash with car; 3 taken to hospitals

Crash scene on Newport Gap Pike at Wilmington & Western Railroad tracks (Photo: Delaware Free News)PRICES CORNER, DELAWARE (8/10/2016) Three people were injured when a car rear-ended a DART Paratransit bus this afternoon, authorities said.

The crash happened abour 4:40 p.m. on Newport Gap Pike (Route 41) at the Wilmington & Western Railroad crossing.

The bus was reported slowing for the railroad tracks when it was struck from behind.

New Castle County paramedics responded as well as Mill Creek, Cranston Heights and Elsmere fire companies.

A 4-year-old girl riding in the car was treated for a head injury, said paramedics Sgt. Abigail E. Haas. The girl was then taken by ambulance to Nemours/A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Rockland.

The 53-year-old driver of the bus was evaluated for neck pain before being taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital, Haas said.

A third person also was taken to a hospital but no details were available.

The crash is under investigation by Delaware State Police.
