WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (8/5/2016) A Wilmington police officer has been charged with arson after his vehicle was set ablaze, authorities said Thursday.

Detective Ahmard Reddick, an 8-year veteran of the force, was arrested Thursday at a home in Middletown.

He was charged with second-degree arson, second-degree conspiracy, second-degree criminal solicitation and providing a false statement to law enforcement to hinder/delay investigation of a felony.

Police said Reddick initially reported an attempted arson of his vehicle on Tuesday in the 3100 block of Lancaster Avenue.

Police initially believed someone poured gasoline into the vehicle and set it on fire in connection with an ongoing street-gang investigation.

But police said they later determined Reddick solicited someone to commit the arson.

Reddick has been placed on administrative leave pending a suspension hearing.
