SMYRNA, DELAWARE (8/4/2016) The treasurer of the Smyrna Parent Teacher Organization has been charged with stealing about $11,000 from the group, city police said early today.

Kellie Sullivan-Mcgovern, 39, of Smyrna, was arrested Tuesday following an investigation that began in March, Cpl. Brian M. Donner said.

“Investigators determined that over the course of nearly two years, Ms. Sullivan-Mcgovern used a debit card issued to her in her official capacity as treasurer for the organization for unlawful and unauthorized personal purchases. These purchases were made at a variety of locations and for many different items/services such as gas stations, liquor stores, baseball tickets, jewelry, clothing and ATM withdrawals,” Donner said.

She was charged with two felony counts of theft of $1,500 or more, 136 counts of unlawful use of a payment card ad one count of falsifying business records.

Mcgovern-Sullivan was released on $7,850 unsecured bond pending a future court hearing, Donner said.
