MIDDLETOWN, DELAWARE (7/21/2016) A 41-year-old man died Wednesday after a single-vehicle crash on Route 1 east of Middletown, the Delaware State Police reported.
The crash happened about 12:40 a.m. in the northbound lanes just north of Fieldsboro Road.
Police said the Philadelphia man’s 2005 Ford Escape drifted off the east side of the road and struck a concrete barrier.
The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was treated by New Castle County paramedics and taken to Christiana Care’s Middletown emergency room, where he was pronounced dead.
Police are withholding his name pending notification of next of kin.
Northbound Route 1 was restricted to a single lane for about two hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
