TOWNSEND, DELAWARE (6/5/2016) A 20-year-old Middletown man was killed in a single-vehicle crash east of Townsend, the Delaware State Police said today. Another young man suffered life-threatening injuries.

The crash was reported at 7:10 p.m. Saturday on Blackbird Landing Road about two miles east of U.S. 13 (DuPont Parkway).

The man killed, Logan Banks, was a passenger in a westbound 2002 Dodge Dakota pickup truck that went partially off the road, struck mud, a culvert and two trees, then overturned onto its roof.

Police said Banks had been wearing a seat belt.

The driver, Tanner Calder, 22, of Townsend, was flown by state police helicopter to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, with life-threatening injuries. It isn’t known if he was wearing a seat belt, police said, but alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors in the crash.

The investigation is continuing and no charges have been filed.

Townsend Fire Company also responded.

Blackbird Landing Road was closed in both directions for about 2.5 hours while police investigated.
