Dover man, 23, killed in Route 1 motorcycle crash

MILTON, DELAWARE (6/3/2016) A 23-year-old Dover man was killed this afternoon when his motorcycle collided with a car crossing Route 1 east of Milton, the Delaware State Police said. The driver of the car was seriously injured.

The crash happened about 1:20 p.m. at the Route 5 intersection.

Police said Joshua P. Courts was riding a 2007 Kawasaki EX6 motorcycle in the southbound left lane of Route 1 when a 2007 Lincoln MKZ, driven by Penny J. Jeffries, 67, of Pennsylvania, began making a left turn from  the stop sign on Route 5 to go north on Route 1.

The front of the motorcycle struck the driver’s door of the car and Courts was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jeffries was flown by Lifenet to Christiana Hospital in Stanton.

Police said Courts had been wearing a helmet.

Traffic in both directions on Route 1 was affected about an hour and a half as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
