LEWES, DELAWARE (5/22/2016) A man ejected from his car in a crash southwest of Lewes was in critical condition, Delaware State Police said Saturday.

The accident happened just before 9 p.m. Friday on Fisher Road near Hopkins Road (Road 286).

Troy Maull, 51, of Lewes, was driving a 2006 Buick Lucerne eastbound approaching the intersection and lost control, hitting a concrete culvert on the north edge of the road. The car then went airborne and struck a utility pole and phone box, then overturned and ejected Maull. The car came to rest in the intersection.

Police said Maull was not wearing a seat belt.

He was treated by Sussex County paramedics, then taken by ambulance to Beebe Healthcare’s hospital in Lewes before being airlifted to Christiana Hospital in Stanton.

Police said alcohol is being considered a factor in the crash.

The intersection was closed about three hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
