DOVER, DELAWARE (5/8/2016) A homeowner shot a 24-year-old man trying to break into the house early Saturday, Dover police said. The wounded man was arrested.
The incident was reported at 2:46 a.m. in the 900 block of Janeka Lane.
The resident heard a loud banging at his back door and armed with a handgun went to check on it, Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said.
The homeowner then heard a loud banging at the front of the home.
A man later identified as Caleb Mason, 24, shattered a window and kicked in the front door, Hoffman said.
“The victim fired twice, striking Mason in the right hip,” Hoffman said.
Mason, of the 3000 block of White Oak Road, was treated at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital for his injuries.
He was then charged with second-degree burglary and criminal mischief.
