2 drivers, pedestrian injured in Newark crash

NEWARK, DELAWARE (3/4/2016) A pedestrian was seriously injured Thursday when two vehicles collided, with one of them overturning, in Newark, authorities said. The drivers also were injured.

The crash happened about 2:40 p.m. at East Delaware Avenue and Academy Street, said Sgt. Abigail E. Haas of New Castle County paramedics.

One of the vehicles, an SUV, went onto a curb and struck a 41-year-old man. The pedestrian was flown by Delaware State Police helicopter to Christiana Hospital in Stanton. He was in serious but stable condition with injuries to his lower body and a possible back injury, Haas said.

The two drivers were taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Newark police were investigating the crash.

Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company, which has a station at the intersection, also responded.
