NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (3/3/2016) A fire that caused $20,000 damage to a vacant home in the Buttonwoods neighborhood in New Castle was arson, the state Fire Marshal’s Office ruled today.

The blaze was reported shortly after 2 p.m. in the first block of Buttonwood Ave., with smoke and flames coming from the building when Good Will Fire Company arrived.

Other fire companies were called in to assist in extinguishing the blaze.

Investigators determined combustibles had been intentionally ignited inside the home, said Robert L. Fox, chief deputy state fire marshal.

No injuries were reported.

Anyone with information on the fire is asked to call the state Fire Marshal’s Office at 302-323-5375.
