Driver trapped, seriously hurt in I-95 crash

NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (1/28/2016) A 19-year-old man was seriously injured when he was trapped in his vehicle when it crashed on Interstate 95 near New Castle this morning, authorities said. Another person also was injured.

The crash happened shortly after 6 a.m. at Basin Road (Route 141).

Firefighters had to cut open the vehicle to extricate the driver, said Sgt. Abigail E. Haas of New Castle County paramedics.

The man was treated for a lower body injury and possible head injury, then taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton. He was in serious but stable condition, Haas said.

A second person was taken to the hospital by ambulance but no details were available.

Delaware State Police are investigating the crash.
