Police ID 35-year-old man shot to death in home invasion

UPDATED STORY: Gunfire hits home later in day at scene of homicide

BRIDGEVILLE, DELAWARE (1/7/2016) A 35-year-old man who was shot to death early today in a home invasion south of Bridgeville has been identified by Delaware State Police.

James F. Dickerson, of Bridgeville, died of a gunshot wound to the head. He was a guest in the home, police said.

The Delaware Division of Forensic Science ruled the death a homicide following an autopsy.

The crime was reported about 12:41 a.m. in the 20000 block of Conrail Road, in the Cannon area.

A 53-year-old woman living at the home said the intruders broke in and fired shots, police said.

The victim was found in the kitchen area with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead by Sussex County paramedics.

The intruders fled in an unknown direction, police said.

The woman and three other male residents were not hurt.
