CHRISTIANA, DELAWARE (1/5/2016) A pedestrian killed on Route 1 near Christiana Mall this morning was struck by a number of vehicles, none of which stopped, Delaware State Police said this evening.

One of the vehicles was a 2011-2013 Volvo S60 sedan or a 2014-2016 Volvo V60 hatchback that is possibly silver in color, police said.

The female pedestrian, still not identified, was either attempting to cross or walking in the right northbound lane of Route 1 just north of the mall exit when she was hit about 6:44 a.m.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by New Castle County paramedics and her body turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science to determine her identity.

The accident closed the right and center lanes of northbound Route 1, causing a miles-long backup for rush-hour traffic for about two hours.

Police asked anyone with information to contact Cpl. Joseph Aube at 302-365-8483.
