Newark man charged in 2 additional shootings

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (12/23/2015) A Newark man arrested Sunday night in a gas station shooting has now been charged in two additional shootings, police said Tuesday.

Michael O. Newton was charged by Wilmington police with first-degree attempted murder, robbery and related counts in the shooting of an 18-year-old man in the 500 block of E. Ninth St. on Sept. 9.

And Delaware State Police charged Newton with attempted murder and related counts in the shooting of a 37-year-old Wilmington man in the parking lot of the Motel 6 at 100 McIntosh Plaza in Ogletown on Dec. 3.

Newton had been arrested after a shooting at the Liberty Gas Station in the 1000 block of W. Fourth St. on Sunday night.

Wilmington police gave Newton’s age as 36; state police said he is 35 years old.

He was being held at Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $426,000 cash bail.
