UPDATED STORY: Wilmington police charge Newark man in 2nd shooting

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (12/21/2015) A 24-year-old man was wounded by gunfire in a Wilmington gas station Sunday night and police arrested a suspect, authorities said.

The incident happened about 10 p.m. at the Liberty Gas Station in the 1000 block of W. Fourth St.

Officers on patrol saw a man running east on Fourth Street after they heard gunfire.

The officers caught up with him on Adams Street and found he had a gunshot wound in his upper left arm, police said, after being shot inside the gas station store. The Wilmington man was treated by New Castle County paramedics and taken to Christiana Hospital in stable condition.

Michael Newton, 35, of Newark, was arrested at the station after a brief struggle and officers seized a .25 caliber Raven Arms handgun from him, police said.

He was taken to Wilmington hospital for treatment of minor injuries received in the struggle, police said, and later charged with first-degree assault, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, reckless endangering and aggravated menacing. He was awaiting arraignment.
