Bear house fire started by Christmas decorations

Fire engineBEAR, DELAWARE (12/10/2015) A fire caused by malfunctioning Christmas decorations heavily damaged a Bear home, authorities said Tuesday.

The fire was reported about 8:30 p.m. Monday in the first block of Thomas Jefferson Blvd., in the Christiana Green neighborhood.

When Christiana firefighters arrived, smoke was coming from the garage with fire extending on the exterior to the rest of the house, said Robert L. Fox, chief deputy state fire marshal.

Several other fire companies assisted in fighting the blaze.

Fox said damage was estimated at $100,000 and the fire was ruled accidental. No injuries were reported.
