LONG NECK, DELAWARE (10/17/2015) A 20-year-old bicyclist was killed Friday night in a crash with a Corvette on Pot-Nets Road, the Delaware State Police reported this morning. Two men were injured when the car struck a tree.

The accident happened about 7:50 p.m. just south of Long Neck Road.

The victim, pronounced dead at the scene, was identified as Lynn T. Bemiller II of Millsboro.

Bemiller was attempting to cross Pot-Nets Road on a bicycle when the front bumper of a 1992 Chevrolet Corvette, traveling at apparent high speed, struck the left side of the bike in the southbound lanes, police said.

Bemiller was thrown into the windshield before landing on the roadway.

The driver of the Corvette, Charles D. Jones Jr., 46, of Millsboro, lost control of the car and struck a large tree, spinning around before coming to a stop on the west edge of the road.

Jones and his passenger, Sean M. French, 39, of Millsboro, were first taken by ambulance to Beebe Healthcare’s hospital in Lewes, then flown to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, where they were admitted, police said. Details on their injuries were not available.

Both men were wearing seat belts. Police said Bemiller was not wearing a helmet or reflective clothing.

The crash is still under investigation but speed and alcohol use on the part of Jones may have been factors, police said.

Pot-Nets Road was closed about four hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
