UPDATED STORY: Newark man dies of crash injuries

NEWARK, DELAWARE (10/3/2015) A 35-year-old man was critically injured in a head-on crash Friday on Old Baltimore Pike south of Newark, authorities said.

The accident happened just after 3 p.m. in the 900 block, near Old Cooch’s Bridge Road.

The driver of one vehicle was trapped in the wreckage, and Christiana firefighters extricated him in about 10 minutes, said Sgt. Michael A. McColley of New Castle County paramedics.

He was treated at the scene for a severe head injury and possible fractured leg, McColley said, before he was taken to Christiana Hospital in Stanton by Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company ambulance. He was in critical condition on arrival, McColley said.

Delaware State Police are investigating the crash.
