Man, 36, killed in hit-run pedestrian accident on U.S. 13

FARMINGTON, DELAWARE (10/1/2015) A 36-year-old man was killed late Wednesday when he was struck by one or more vehicles while he was walking on U.S. 13 east of Farmington, Delaware State Police said this morning.

The accident happened about 10:25 p.m. on South DuPont Highway (U.S. 13) just north of Main Street.

Jay P. Grove III of Harrington was in the northbound right lane when he was struck by a vehicle that fled without stopping.

Police said a northbound motorcyclist called 911 after he struck what he initially thought was a deer in the roadway. The motorcyclist wasn’t hurt but his bike was damaged.

Grove, who police said was wearing dark clothing, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they are investigating the possibility other vehicles may have struck Grove.

Northbound U.S. 13 was closed about 6½ hours as police investigated.
