DELAWARE (10/1/2015) Moderate to major coastal flooding is likely at successive high tides starting this afternoon and may continue into the weekend in Delaware, the National Weather Service says.

Numerous roads may flood and minor to major property damage is possible, as well as moderate beach erosion, the service said in issuing a coastal flood warning for Kent and Sussex counties until 6 a.m. Friday following resumption of strong northeast winds.

A coastal flood advisory was issued for New Castle County from noon until 8 p.m. today.

The most severe flooding is possible Friday and Saturday.

The weather service said the flooding may occur for a few hours around high tide, which is between 10 a.m. and noon on the oceanfront today and around noon on Friday.

High tide occurs later on Rehoboth, Indian River and Delaware bays and the Delaware River.

Winds may gust to 40 mph along the coast, the service said.
