Woman injured when object hits car on I-495

HOLLY OAK, DELAWARE (9/27/2015) A woman was seriously injured  this afternoon when an unknown object struck her car on Interstate 495, authorities said.

The accident happened about 5 p.m. in the southbound lanes north of Bellevue Road.

The woman was treated at the scene for possible head, neck and back injuries and then flown by Delaware State Police helicopter to Christiana Hospital, said Cpl. Abigail Haas of New Castle County paramedics.

The woman was in serious but stable condition, Haas said.

DelDOT said the two right lanes were closed for about half an hour.

 

The crash is being investigated by Delaware State Police.

Brandywine Hundred, Claymont and Minquadale fire companies also responded.
