NEWPORT, DELAWARE (9/20/2015) A man was struck and killed by an Amtrak train near Newport early today, authorities said.
The incident happened shortly after 1 a.m. on the tracks between Water and East Ayre streets, near Copper Drive and about .4 mile east of Route 141.
The victim, believed to be in his 40s, has not yet been identified. The body was removed by the Delaware Division of Forensic Science.
Cpl. Abigail E. Haas of New Castle County paramedics said the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Delaware State Police and Amtrak police are investigating.
