Man killed, woman in critical condition after Long Neck crash

LONG NECK, DELAWARE (9/13/2015) A man was killed and a woman critically injured in a single-vehicle crash late Saturday night, Delaware State Police said this morning.

The accident was reported just after 11 p.m. on Long Neck Road.

Jeffrey W. Bell Jr., 42, of Millsboro, was driving a 2001 Pontiac Aztek eastbound approaching Pot-Nets Road when he failed to negotiate a moderate curve, spun around and struck a fence post with the right rear of the vehicle, then continued east, spun around and struck a large tree on the driver’s side.

Bell was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said he wasn’t properly restrained in the car.

A passenger, Jaime E. Taylor, 37, of Millsboro, was taken by ambulance to Beebe Healthcare’s hospital in Lewes and admitted in critical condition, police said. She had been wearing a seat belt.

Police are still investigating the crash.

The road was closed about three hours.
