CLAYTON, DELAWARE (9/4/2015) A truck collided with a train north of Clayton this afternoon when the driver’s foot slipped off the brake pedal and hit the gas, Delaware State Police said.

The crash happened just after 2 p.m. at the crossing on Vandyke Greenspring Road.

Justin M. Sherwood, 34, of Magnolia, was driving a Wyoming Millwork 2014 Freightliner flatbed truck east and stopped for the flashing red light at the crossing. When his foot slipped, police said, the truck moved into the path of the southbound Norfolk Southern train and was struck on the front left by the first engine.

The truck was pushed back about 3 feet. The train, with 36 cars and two engines, stopped about a quarter mile south of the collision. There was no derailment and no one was injured, police said.

A trooper ticketed Sherwood for inattentive driving.

The road was closed about 3 hours while police investigated and the train was inspected.
