Simonds Garden playground fire ruled arson

NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (9/3/2015) A fire that caused $60,000 damage to playground equipment at the Simonds Gardens community park north of New Castle was determined to be arson, the Delaware state Fire Marshal’s Office said today.

 

The fire broke out about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, with heavy smoke and flames when Holloway Terrace firefighters arrived, said Robert Fox, chief deputy fire marshal.

Investigators determined the fire was intentionally started by unknown person or persons igniting combustibles, Fox said.

He asked anyone with information to call the Fire Marshal’s Office at 302-323-5375.
