BRIDGEVILLE, DELAWARE (8/29/2015) A 20-year-old Seaford man was charged with trying to murder his girlfriend after her throat was slashed during a domestic argument, Delaware State Police said this morning.

The incident happened about 8:45 p.m. Friday in the 12000 block of Nat Turner St. east of Bridgeville.

Darnell A. Aiken and the 20-year-old woman were arguing inside her home when he went to the kitchen, got a knife and then swung it at her in the living room, causing a large cut in her neck, police said.

Aiken and another female in the home took the victim to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford in his vehicle.

Police said Aiken threatened harm to them if they said what really happened, and they initially reported at the hospital that she was slashed by an unknown person on her front steps.

Aiken was taken into custody at the hospital with some resistance, police said, and charged later with first-degree attempted murder, possession of a deadly weapon during commission of a felony, resisting arrest, terroristic threatening and criminal mischief.

Police said the victim’s condition this morning is unknown.
