UPDATED STORY: Police reveal Hockessin murder arrest

HOCKESSIN, DELAWARE (8/27/2015) A 27-year-old Hockessin man shot to death earlier this week had “a substantial amount of marijuana” in his car when he was killed, New Castle County police said this evening.

As a result, police do not believe the killing of Shazim Uppal was a random act of violence, Officer First Class Tracey Duffy said.

She said the investigation into the slaying is continuing and police are seeking anyone who may have seen Uppal driving his 2007 black Audi A8 with Delaware license plate.

Duffy said police have expanded the area of interest to include Pike Creek in Delaware and Concordville in Pennsylvania between 10 p.m. Sunday and 2 a.m. Monday.

Uppal’s body was found Monday night in a car at Genesis HealthCare near the entrance to the Hockessin Chase development, where he lived. He was a recent graduate of Temple University’s Beasley School of Law.

Anyone with information on his death is asked to call Detective J. Ziemba at JZiemba@nccde.org or phone 302-395-8068.

Duffy also asked any resident in the area with video surveillance to contact police.

County police and Delaware Crime Stoppers offer rewards up to $10,000 for an arrest and/or conviction regarding any violent crime by calling 800-TIP-3333 or visit www.delaware.crimestoppersweb.com.
