Girl, 16, struck by truck in Hockessin, in critical condition

DSP logoHOCKESSIN, DELAWARE (8/24/2015) A 16-year-old girl was in critical condition after being struck by a pickup truck this afternoon in Hockessin, authorities said.

The accident happened about 3:20 p.m. as the girl, Agostina V. Genovesio of Hockessin, was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of Lancaster Pike (Route 41) at Yorklyn Road.

Police said she was struck by a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Daniel Hovis, 71, of Oxford, Pa.

Hovis was making a left turn from westbound Yorklyn Road to southbound Lancaster Pike when the front of his truck struck Genovesio, police said. He stopped the truck at the scene.

Genovesio  was knocked to the ground.

She was treated by paramedics for facial and chest injuries as well as a fractured leg, said Sgt. Michael McColley of New Castle County emergency medical services.

The teen was then flown by state police helicopter to Nemours/A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Rockland. A paramedic was aboard to assist with her care, McColley said.

Police said her injuries were not life-threatening.

Hovis was not injured.

Police said the crash is still under investigation but no charges are expected.

Southbound Lancaster Pike was closed about an hour.
