Man, 41, dies after I-495 crash, plunge

EDGEMOOR, DELAWARE (8/24/2015) A man who crashed his SUV into a Jersey barrier at an Interstate 495 exit ramp and then jumped to a ramp below has died of his injuries, authorities said this morning.

The victm was Timothy Kain, 41, of Philadelphia, according to Delaware State Police.

The incident happened about 5:45 p.m. Sunday at the exit from southbound I-495 to Edgemoor Road.

After the crash, which disabled the Lincoln MKX, Kain ran down the highway and jumped over another Jersey barrier, plunging 75 feet to the Edgemoor Road ramp to northbound I-495, according to reports from the scene.

Kain suffered severe head injuries and was treated on the scene and en route to Christiana Hospital, said Sgt. Michael McColley of New Castle County paramedics. He was taken by Claymont ambulance to the hospital, where he later died.

Brandywine Hundred Fire Company also responded.
