SMYRNA, DELAWARE (8/15/2015) A 16-year-old boy was arrested after Smyrna officers recognized him on surveillance video from an attempted robbery at a Valero gas station, police said this morning.

The robbery try happened about 11:35 p.m. at 313 N. DuPont Blvd. (U.S. 13).

The clerk reported that a young man with curly red hair had reached across the counter and attempted to steal money from the cash drawer, Cpl. Brandon Dunning said.

He said the clerk instinctively grabbed the teen’s hand and arm, and the boy dropped the money and ran out of the store.

Officers then reviewed the video and after recognizing him, arrested the teen at his home. Police said he was wearing the same clothing as when the video was taken.

The boy was charged with second-degree attempted robbery and released on $1,000 unsecured bond.
