DART bus crash in Wilmington injures 7

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (8/5/2015) A DART bus collided with an SUV this morning in downtown Wilmington, sending seven people to hospitals, authorities said.

The accident happened just before 11 a.m. at 11th and Walnut streets.

The driver of the SUV was trapped in the vehicle about 15 minutes until he was freed by Wilmington firefighters, said Battalion Chief James Jobes.

Six people from the bus and one from the SUV were taken by ambulance to hospitals including St. Francis and Wilmington. The SUV driver was taken to Christiana Hospital. Four of the injured were adults and three were children, Jobes said.

He said none of the injuries were life-threatening.

Wilmington police are investigating the crash.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly said the crash occurred at 10th and Walnut. It happened at 11th and Walnut.
