Claymont fire ruled accidental

Fire engineCLAYMONT, DELAWARE (8/5/2015) A fire that damaged two homes in the Colony North neighhborhood in Claymont was accidental, the Delaware state Fire Marshal’s Office ruled today.

The blaze broke out about 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the first block of Second Ave. and caused damage to a neighboring home.

Heavy smoke was coming from the second floor and roof area when firefighters arrived, said Robert L. Fox, chief deputy state fire marshal.

He said investigators determined the fire originated in the common wall and was caused by an electrical malfunction.

Fox said no one was home at the time and no injuries were reported.

Damage was estimated at $20,000.

Familes from both homes were displaced, Fox said.
