Golf cart collision sends man to hospital

MIDDLETOWN, DELAWARE (7/16/2015) A 55-year-old man was injured in a golf cart collision north of Middletown on Wednesday, New Castle County police said.

The accident happened just before 7 p.m. at the Back Creek Golf Club, off Churchtown Road.

Police said the accident happened near the 10th hole and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident.

The carts collided head-on at low speed, Officer First Class Tom Jackson said.

Initial reports indicated a 55-year-old man using one of the carts was unconscious, but he was conscious when emergency crews arrived. He was treated by county paramedics and troopers from the Delaware State Police aviation unit, then taken by Middletown Fire Company ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton.

Jackson said his injuries were not life-threatening.
