Simonds Gardens house fire ruled accidental

NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (6/29/2015) A house fire in the Simonds Gardens neighborhood near New Castle that sent two people to a hospital early Saturday was ruled accidental, authorities said.

The fire broke out just after midnight in the the first block of Simonds Drive.

Investigators determined the fire started on a stove top where food was left heating, said Michael Chionchio, assistant state fire marshal.

Two occupants were taken to Christiana Hospital after inhaling smoke while fleeing from the home, he said.

No smoke alarms were in the house.

Chionchio said damage was estimated at $10,000.
