Laurel man killed in head-on crash near Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, DELAWARE (6/17/2015) A 66-year-old Laurel man was killed Tuesday in a head-on crash northwest of Georgetown, authorities said.

The accident happened just before 2 p.m. on a curve on Bridgeville Road (Route 18).

Laurence T. Bell was driving a 2011 Honda Civic westbound when he crossed into the center line and struck an eastbound 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. Both vehicles collided in the left front area, Delaware State Police said.

Bell was taken by ambulance to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said it wasn’t known if he was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the pickup, James W. Adkins, 63, of Harbeson, was not injured.

The road was closed about two hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
