DELAWARE CITY, DELAWARE (5/29/2015) A Dover man was killed in the crash of a pickup truck near Delaware City, authorities said.
The accident was discovered about 5:30 a.m. today in the 800 block of Cox Neck Road by a passerby who noticed the vehicle’s lights on in a field, Delaware State Police said. The exact time of the crash is uncertain.
The victim, Richard H. Murray, 66, was pronounced dead at the scene by New Castle County paramedics.
Police said Murray was eastbound east of Clarks Corner Road when his 2014 Ford F-150 drifted off the south side, struck a traffic signal box and a dirt embankment before going airborne and striking a tree.
The pickup then overturned, landing on its roof in the field with Murray trapped inside.
Police said he was wearing a seat belt.
Delaware City, Port Penn and Christiana fire companies responded.
