UPDATED STORY: Wilmington man named as suspect in home invasion near Towsend

TOWNSEND, DELAWARE (5/26/2015) A 51-year-old woman was shot in an exchange of gunfire during a home invasion on U.S. 13 near Townsend early today, Delaware State Police said.

The incident happened just after 2 a.m. as three males forced their way into the home in the 3900 block of S. DuPont Highway (U.S. 13).

Two of the intruders were armed with guns and confronted the occupants of the home – a 51-year-old woman, a 31-year-old man, a 22-year-old woman and a 1-year-old boy – and demanded money.

The 51-year-old woman then produced a gun of her own and exchanged gunfire with one of the intruders, police said. She was wounded in a lower extremity.

Meanwhile, the 31-year-old man was assaulted by one of the other intruders.

The intruders fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

The two victims were taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton. Police described their injuries as not life-threatening.

Police said they didn’t know if any of the intruders were injured.

The intruders were only described as two black males and one Hispanic male. All wore masks.
