Robbery attempted outside liquor store near Smyrna

SMYRNA, DELAWARE (5/18/2015) A passing vehicle apparently scared off a robber outside a liquor store, Delaware State Police said today.

The robbery attempt happened just before 11 p.m. Friday at the Spruance City Liquors store at 625 Smyrna Clayton Boulevard near Smyrna.

A 47-year-old man who works at the store had just closed the business and was near his car when a man approached from behind and demanded his money, police said.

As the victim was trying to get some money from his pants pockets, the robber hit him in the head with an unknown object.

The robber fled when a vehicle passed the store.

The victim was injured slightly and taken by ambulance to the Bayhealth Emergency Center in Smyrna.

The robber was described as 21-26 years old, about 5-feet-6, 140-160 pounds and was wearing a mask.
