ELSMERE, DELAWARE (4/30/2015) A crash involving a pickup truck and a broken utility pole closed eastbound Kirkwood Highway (Route 2) west of Elsmere for hours, but one lane was reopened by 9:45 a.m. and the final lane was reopened about 3 p.m.

DelDOT reported the accident at Elizabeth Avenue at 6:38 a.m.

Motorists were being diverted onto neighborhood streets in Roselle to get around the wreck until the left lane was reopened.

Northbound Route 141 also backed up at the exit for eastbound Kirkwood Highway during the height of the problems.

Utility crews were on the scene to make repairs. Delmarva Power initially had no outage in the area but reported about 8:30 a.m. that 61 customers had lost service. Those had power restored by early afternoon, according to the company’s website.

The pickup was towed from the scene just before 7:30 a.m. No injuries were reported.
