2 arrested after chase, crashes in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (4/29/2015) Two Wilmington men were arrested after they fled from officers and their vehicle struck a police car and two other vehicles, authorities said Tuesday. A police officer and one suspect were injured.

The incident began about 2:30 p.m. Monday when a Wilmington police detective assigned to the U.S. Marshals Task Force spotted a wanted man inside a vehicle and officers attempted a traffic stop at 18th Street and Baynard Boulevard.

The vehicle fled, striking a marked police cruiser and then hitting two other vehicles at Concord Avenue and West Streets.

The two men inside then fled on foot but were captured by officers, police said.

The driver, Tymir Mason, 23, had been wanted on charges of breach of release, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed weapon and resisting arrest. He was additionally charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a person prohibited, vehicular assault, resisting arrest and numerous traffic violations.

His passenger, Bryon Wilmer, 18, was charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a person prohibited and resisting arrest.

Police said they seized a Bryco Jennings 9 mm handgun loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition.

A police officer was treated at Wilmington Hospital for an arm injury suffered in the crash. His name was not released.

Mason also was treated for minor injuries.
