WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (3/29/2015) A 17-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder in a shooting Friday in the 400 block of S. Franklin St., city police reported today.

The incident happened about 2:20 p.m. when the teen approached three young men and attempted contact with an 18-year-old in a group of three men walking on the sidewalk.

When the 18-year-old refused, the 17-year-old produced a handgun and began firing, wounding the man and endangering a 20-year-old and 22-year-old with him, police said.

The three victims then fled into a home, which also was damaged by gunfire, and the 20-year-old suffered minor abrasions to his back from a fragmented projectile or other material dislodged by the gunfire. He was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital, where he was treated and released.

The 17-year-old fled but was later identified by investigators, who searched a home in the 300 block of S. Harrison St. but failed to locate him. His family brought him to police on Saturday.

He was charged with attempted murder, assault, reckless endangering, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and by a person prohibited-juvenile, and criminal mischief. The boy was being held at the New Castle County Detention Center in lieu of $306,200 cash bail.

Police asked anyone with additional information to contact Detective Tom Curley at 302-576-3625.
