Delaware snow prediction
National Weather Service snow prediction issued Wednesday afternoon.

DELAWARE (3/4/2015) Forecasters have scaled back – just slightly – predictions for snow due to arrive late tonight.

Most of the state is now expected to get 6 to 8 inches of snow, down from upper expectations of 10 inches issued earlier today.

The lower half of Sussex County is only predicted to get 4 to 6 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain through today will change to sleet and then snow late tonight and continue through Thursday afternoon.

The latest predictions come as northern Delaware unwinds from freezing rain that left a layer of ice Tuesday night.

Towns have warned residents to keep snow emergency routes clear and some meetings Thursday have been postponed due to the expected storm.

The University of Delaware opened its New Castle County campuses at noon today due to icy conditions. Classes scheduled before that time will not meet. The Sharp Campus in Lewes is on a normal schedule.

A downed tree that closed Mill Creek Road in Hockessin between Ramunno Circle and Mendenhall Mill Road has been cleared and the road reopened.

Delmarva Power reported eight customers lost power in the area about 10 p.m. Tuesday, but service to those and virtually all other customers in the state has been restored as of 3:40 p.m.

As freezing rain fell Tuesday night, the National Weather Service reported 1,000-2,000 electric customers lost service in the region.

The weather service issued a winter storm warning from 11 tonight until 7 p.m. Thursday. Similar warnings for Kent and Sussex counties start a few hours later.
