15-year-old charged in Bear shooting

BEAR, DELAWARE (2/13/2015) A 15-year-old Wilmington boy has been charged with shooting a 20-year-old man Thursday night in the Sparrow Run community, New Castle County police said this morning.

The shooting happened about 9:40 p.m. at a home in the 400 block of Kemper Drive.

 

The victim lives nearby, in the first block of Foxton Drive in Bear.

He was wounded in the upper torso, said Officer First Class Tom Jackson of New Castle County police.

The man was treated at the scene by New Castle County paramedics and taken by Christiana Fire Company ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton.

He was in stable condition, Jackson said.

A county police K-9 team located the weapon, a .25 caliber handgun, outside the home.

The 15-year-old, of the 400 Block of N. Rodney St., was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, assault and possession of a controlled substance. He was committed to the New Castle County Detention Center in lieu of $82,000 cash bail.

Police had earlier reported the victim’s age as 21.
