UPDATED STORY: Day care owner indicted in boy’s death
OAK ORCHARD, DELAWARE (1/29/2015) State police are investigating the death of a 10-month-old boy who was at a day care in the Oak Orchard area east of Millsboro.
About 2:15 p.m Wednesday, a 911 call brought troopers to Handy’s Little Disciples day care at 28194 Layton-Davis Road.
A day care worker found the child unresponsive while trying to awaken him from a nap, police said.
The boy was taken by ambulance to Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, where he later was pronounced dead.
Police said an autopsy is planned.
According to the state website, a child care at that location has been licensed to Valerie Handy since 1998. It was cited for violations 21 times from 2012 through 2014 but all issues had been corrected.
