Inmate’s apparent suicide investigated

DOVER, DELAWARE (1/20/2015) The death of a 24-year-old inmate from Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution near New Castle was an apparent suicide, prison officials said today.

Felecia Morris, of Dover, died after she was removed from life support at Christiana Hospital in Stanton this morning.

She had been taken to the hospital after she was found Saturday in her single-occupant cell, Department of Correction spokesman Jason Miller said.

Morris had been at the facility since Thursday on shoplifting, criminal mischief, disorderly contact and offensive touching charges in Kent County. Secured bail had been set at $3,000.

State police are investigating but no foul play is suspected, Miller said.

The Division of Forensic Science will conduct an autopsy.
