ELSMERE, DELAWARE (1/3/2015) Fire caused extensive damage to a home in the Elmhurst neighborhood south of Elsmere this evening, according to reports from the scene. A puppy died.

Flames were showing on all floors at 205 W. Summit Av. when firefighters arrived just before 8 p.m.

One firefighter was evaluated at the scene for minor injuries but declined transport to a hospital, said Sgt. Michael McColley of New Castle County paramedics.

He said firefighters and paramedics attempted to resuscitate the puppy, which was found inside the home, but were unsuccessful.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the blaze.

Fire companies responded included Five Points, Mill Creek, Elsmere, Belvedere, Minquas, Wilmington Manor, Talleyville and Brandywine Hundred as well as Wilmington’s fire department.
